Fable 556: The Butterfly and the Wasp

The story of a jealous butterfly, a fierce wasp and the eternal lesson of gratitude.

Let this wine inspire a feeling of gratitude — do not dwell too long on the past. For like the butterfly and the wasp, it matters not what we were before, but what we have become.

In ancient times, it was believed that Wasps were created out of a Mule’s carcass. Human spirits, on the other hand, would take the form of a Butterfly after death. One of these Butterflies saw a Wasp flying by and gasped. “How unfair!” the Butterfly exclaimed. “In my past life, I was the one who led armies into wars and inspired crowds with impassioned speeches. Now I flutter about, my paper-thin wings pulled in every direction by the wind. But you, born from the lowliest creature, are equipped with a stinger and can harm anyone who wrongs you.” The Wasp, unbothered, simply responded: “It does not matter what we were. The important thing is what we are now.”

Production Notes
This Rosé is produced exclusively from grapes grown on our estate, with no Saignée method involved. Our Grenache grapes were cultivated in Adelaida Preserve, situated in Paso Robles, while the Blaufrankisch variety is sourced from our Templeton Preserve estate, which was initially planted for renowned winemaker Ken Volk. The grapes were pressed whole-cluster and fermented using native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then blended and bottled in January 2024 to preserve its youthful, vibrant energy and freshness.
